Travel

By Road
Driving up from either Trivandrum, Kochi or Kottayam, the Kottayam-Kumily road makes an ideal choice of travel. If coming from Madurai, the Theni - Kumily route is recommended. From Munnar, the breathtaking drive along the cardamom hills is replete with forests, tea estates and cardamom estates. The journey to Thekkady takes one through quaint little hill-towns and softly contoured hill slopes surrounded by plantations of tea, coffee and spices like cardamom and pepper. The air, fresh and rejuvenating, is fragrant with the delicate aromas of this spice district.

By Air 

Kochi International Airport is approximately 200 kms away, Trivandrum International Airport is 275 kms and Madurai is 130 kms away in Tamil Nadu, the state adjoining Kerala. 

By Rail

If arriving by train, Kottayam (112 kms) is the nearest railway station. This station is well connected to both Trivandrum and Kochi and other major cities of India.

Periyar Tiger Reserve

The resort is ½ a km the the popular Periyar Tiger Reserve. At the core of the reserve is the serene Periyar Lake, uniquely marked by half-submerged tree stumps. Encircling the waters are the lush tropical forests in which the majestic tiger roams, free and protected.

The sanctuary is home to an amazing abundance of wildlife and is considered one of the finest in the country for observing and photographing animal life, especially the wild Asiatic elephant. Besides the tiger and elephant, the rare lion-tailed macaque, sambar deer, the elusive leopard, wild boar and guar, the largest wild cattle, flourish in the recesses of the jungles. Local and migratory birds, reptiles, and many plant species add variety to the forest fauna. This protected tropical bio-sphere is home to exotic species like orchids, fungi, medicinal plants   Experienced guides take visitors on a trekking trip or a guided walking tour. Under the dense forest cover is a cacophony of sounds; the shrill scolding cicadas, the chirping birds, the chatter of monkeys and innumerable other unseen creatures that serenade you in their ceaseless song of communication. See some rare plant species close up, and if you are in luck, fresh paw marks could add thrill to the tiger trail.
